WHAT IS SELF SABOTAGE
Self sabotage is how individuals orchestrate their own down fall or living under their potential. Self sabotage can come in the guise of perfectionism, procrastination, addiction, indecision, abusive relationships etc.
Sometimes a person is conscious when he/she is self sabotaging and does it anyway. Sometimes an individual is unconscious of their self sabotaging behavior and assumes a victim stance whether it be the victim of others themselves or fate.
When a person suffers the consequences of their self sabotaging behavior he/she often thinks about each time he/she self sabotaged and uses this as proof he/she is some variation of “less than or not good enough”.
HOW DOES IT EFFECT PEOPLE
An individual may not be able to hold a steady job and meet financial obligations by self sabotaging at work. Mental and physical health problems can result from the stress, anxiety, depression and wounding of the self caused by self sabotaging behaviors. Relationships with family and friends are strained and a person may isolate due to shame or hopelessness. Often an individual develops one or more addictions.
